How alternate side parking works in NYC

Alternate side parking lets street sweepers clean the curb. On the days and times posted on your block's sign, cars must be moved from that side of the street. When ASP is suspended for a holiday or bad weather, you can leave your car where it is.

When is alternate side parking suspended?
ASP is suspended on the legal and religious holidays listed on the City's calendar, and sometimes for snow or other emergencies. Parking meters stay in effect except on major legal holidays.
What happens if I miss the move?

Can I double park during street cleaning?
Many New Yorkers wait in the car while the sweeper passes, but it is still double parking. The safest move is to have a spot lined up before you need it.
Does ASP apply on weekends?
